Key Points for Review
Overlapping Data in a MapGuide Layer
explains overlapping map features within one map layer.
This page is a list of key points to review what you've learned.
Getting Ready
- Zoom in!
- You may need to turn off Parcels or other layers "on top" of the layer with overlapping map features.
- Overlap order generally has no meaning.
- Map tips only show what is on top.
Selecting Overlapping Map Features Within One Layer
- Single-click selects only select whatever is on top. Don't use single-click selections to report on overlapping map features.
- Use "Intersection" selection mode (most of the time).
- Select map features to report by area.
- Selecting an object makes the negative color of that object.
- When two overlapping objects are selected, the color changes cancel.
- Inadvertently selecting other map layer features is irrelevant to overlap layer reporting.
- You can define an area of interest with the select tools, with the Draw Polygon tool, or by using existing map features (such as parcels).
Reporting on Overlapping Map Features
- Reports of overlapping map features let you:
- Use cursor up/down keys or roll the mouse over the results to select corresponding map features.
- Zoom to a selected map feature.
- Close report windows when done. You may get errors when an old report window is open.
