Pictometry Aerial Photos Class Announcement
Pima County Department of Transportation is presenting
a Pictometry Aerial Photos class.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. TO REGISTER, SEND E-MAIL TO
Friday, April 3rd
1:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Public Works Building
Basement Conference Room C
201 N. Stone Avenue
The class format is lecture/demonstration, not hands-on.
This class is free and open to the public. Seating is
limited to approximately 70. You may want to arrive a
few minutes early to get a good seat. We do not validate
parking stubs.
Using Pictometry, you can view oblique (angled) aerial
photos of the Tucson area interactively over the Internet
using the Pima County DOT web site at http://dot.pima.gov.
Oblique aerial photos show buildings, infrastructure, and
land from all sides. As a result, you see more natural
three-dimensional perspective views of buildings and
other features on the ground than you see on orthophotos.
Pictometry provides a total of five views of each
photographed area. In order to see all sides of buildings
and other features, four oblique photos are taken looking
to the north, south, east and west. Pictometry also
includes an orthophoto view looking straight down. As
compared to orthophotos alone, Pictometry's photos can
dramatically improve your understanding of what's on the
ground.
The class explains Pictometry and focuses on using the
Pictometry Viewer. Topics include:
- An overview of Pictometry
- Pictometry vs. Orthophotos
- The web-based Pictometry Viewer
- Four ways to start or access Pictometry
- Pictometry Viewer window areas
- Zooming, magnification, and clarity
- Using Pictometry tools

If you are new to Pictometry, it would help to go
to http://dot.pima.gov/gis/pictometry/, follow
the directions there, and see if you can get started before
the class. That way you won't be a complete beginner, will
understand some of the concepts, and will have some
questions.
Wi-Fi wireless networking will be available. Feel free
to bring your Wi-Fi enabled laptop to follow along with
the lecture/demonstration. However, this is not a
"hands-on" or lab class. Please note:
- We provide limited table space with power outlets.
All other laptop users must use battery power.
- Come early to set up and make the Wi-Fi connection.
We won't be able to help after the class starts.
- We can't assist with your use of Pictometry on your
laptop during the lecture.
Things to bring:
- You may want a sweater. The room can be cold.
- Feel free to bring your own refreshments. None are
provided.
- Please be considerate of others who may be sensitive
or allergic to perfume.
This is a repeat of the class we have done in the past.
