Community Participation and Mitigation Ordinance

The Community Participation and Mitigation Ordinance identifies the policies and processes for pima county citizens, neighborhoods and businesses to provide valuable input during the design and construction phases of transportation projects. The ordinance establishes the process for gathering public input, including the creation of a citizen advisory committee for each major roadway project. The ordinance was first written in 1989 and updated in 2006.

Update of Proposed Changes

In June, 2011 the Department of Transportation proposed changing the ordinance to streamline and simplify the roadway development process. We notified existing and recent Community Advisory Committees of the proposed changes, conducted an on-line survey, and requested feedback from Pima County citizens. As is often the case, some people supported the changes and some people opposed the changes. Many people asked for more information before offering an opinion. At this time, based on the feedback received thus far, the Department of Transportation has decided not to change the ordinance as it currently exists. Thank you for responding!
